Work is progressing on the New Vila Franca de Xira Hospital, set to replace the existing Hospital Reynaldo dos Santos, which will serve the needs of 235 thousand inhabitants of the district of Vila Franca de Xira, Alenquer, Arruda dos Vinhos, Azambuja and Benavente.
The new unit will have all the functions of a central hospital, including an ophthalmology (consultation and surgery) and psychiatry department. The hospital will have 280 inpatient beds, 9 operating theatres and 33 outpatient consultation rooms, as well as an expected annual capacity of 16 thousand inpatient admissions, 8 thousand operations, 192 thousand outpatient visits and 104 thousand emergency visits.
Construction of the New Vila Franca de Xira Hospital, at a total value of 76 million Euros, is ensured through the ‘NHXIRA’ joint venture, a subsidiary of MSF Engenharia. The venture initially began in June 2011 and is expected for completion during the first quarter of 2013.
The interior finishing works are currently taking place in a steady progressive sequence, including the installation of the water supply and drainage systems, mechanical, electrical, medical fluid and fuel gas installation networks. Outdoor paving and landscaping works are also underway, including the completion of building façades.
